He Doesn’t Give Up
We can still hear him shouting "So-PHEE-uh!" Everyone else — including some viewers — got tired of the Season 2 search for young Sophia, but Daryl does not give up that easily. He would still be searching now if they hadn’t opened that barn door.
He Never Runs Out of Arrows
Even if it seems like magic for him to have an inexhaustible supply, it’s good to know if you’re with Daryl you will always have a crossbow to protect you.
He’s a Great Provider
Normally we wouldn’t like someone killing an owl (Hedwig!) but they were starving on the run in Season 3 and daddy brought dinner home. He also brought a deer to the prison in Season 4 and Patrick thanked “Mr. Dixon” for providing them with great food.
He Says the Darndest Things
He’s just a quote machine. Having someone that amusing around comes in handy in the zombie apocalypse since, as Lilly recently noted, the end of the world can be boring.
He Doesn’t Jump Into Bed With Every Girl He Meets
Like some guys we know. (*cough*Governor*cough*) He’s been building a slow-burn relationship with Carol since at least Season 2. He also has chemistry with Michonne and maybe a bit with Beth. Not that Pookie has made a move on any of them. As Norman Reedus told Daily Dead, “I don’t ever want to play that character that grabs the girl and has my way with her. That’s just not who that character is. If Daryl falls in love with you, he’s going to love you for the rest of his life.” Aww!
He’s a Loyal BFF
This will be tested when Rick tells him about Carol, but Daryl is just quietly the wind beneath Rick’s wings. He helped out baby Judith when Rick went to Crazy Town (“it’s what we do”) and when the prison newbies were treating him like a rock star he was quick to point out that Rick also rescued some people out there. Daryl should never have to choose between his bromance with Rick and his potential romance with Carol. Let the man have both!
He’s Not Afraid to Cry
And, oh, did poor Daryl ever cry when he saw his brother Merle had been zombie-fied and he had to put him down himself. Daryl was always the sweet baby brother. Didn’t you just want to give him a hug?
He’s Nice to Look At
To put it mildly. TWD is filled with eye candy, but Daryl — with his long hair, sleeveless shirts, and black bandana — has managed to make the zombie apocalypse fashionable. It’s hard to imagine the end of the world improving someone’s life, but it’s done wonders for Daryl on every front.
Are you also thankful for Daryl? Let’s hope this didn’t jinx him for the mid-season finale!
Watch Season 4, Episode 8: “Too Far Gone” this Sunday, December 1 at 9 p.m. ET. on AMC.
